The apparent story behind this recital is intriguing. A sideman on albums by Louis Sclavis and others, and a prolific performer with his own trio, Moussay has used this solo debut to celebrate his Alpinist enthusiasm for mountaineering.

The album's title track refers to a rocky promontory, and other track titles include ‘Don't Look Down’ and ‘127’, inspired by that extraordinary Danny Boyle documentary movie 127 Hours. Sadly, I listened to the album first before reading the press release and – oh, dear. These short piano rhapsodies not only don't convey the experience of such daredevil activities; or of watching them on film but, despite the 12 tracks only totalling 39 minutes (reminiscent of 1950s LPs), there's not enough variety from piece to piece. Four consecutive tracks begin with minor-key ostinatos, all implying an out-of-tempo feel – certainly they don't function as rhythmic vamps – and overall there's a lack of energy and invention.

The press release invokes the name of Chopin at one point, but he was actually rhythmic as well as melodic and, despite a single fleeting hint of Jarrett in midimprovisation, Moussay fails to deliver anything very memorable here.
