Something of a new generation free-jazz super group, here, featuring leading younger players: Serbian drummer Skoric and American tenor man Dikeman – both based in the Netherlands – team up for a one shot deal with Branch, probably the most talented trumpeter currently on the scene, and Stewart, indefatigable bass player from essential energy music avatars Irreversible Entanglements. Yet, despite the ensemble's youth, it's clear from the first leaping sax fanfare on opening track ‘Your Country,‘ that there's an old school energy at work, summoning a rambunctious group blow out in the spirit of iconic sessions such as Albert Ayler's New York Eye and Ear Control. Dikeman's not afraid to rock a wide, Ayler-ish vibrato and, with her extremely high, tight peals, Branch comes across like Donald Ayler with added chops.

Stewart takes a couple of solos, dealing rough, lurching arco shapes and, in the final track, the seven minute encore, ‘Wake Up!‘, he pulls a loping vamp out of nowhere, giving the ensemble something juicy to hang their hats on. Retro? Yes. Derivative? Possibly. Fun? You bet.
