This is best described as an example of what Nigel and Vasilis do so well in so many playing situations, clubs or festivals, and another confirmation of the trio's collective prowess and success Bolstered by Stanley's organ chords and interjections, with Home his usual supportive self, they mesmerise in much the same way that the great organ combos used to do. I suppose it's fair to say that what they were doing five and three years ago on this evidence is pretty much what they're still doing so well today. These are live recordings from The Crypt in Camberwell and feature pieces heard on the trio's earlier releases, some by Price plus the immortal ‘Four on Six’ by Price's and everybody else's hero, Wes Montgomery, this an extended workout for Home. The notes make it clear that Price's originals are contrafacts, the opening All In' based on ‘Body and Soul’, for instance. No matter, for they each reveal the collective strengths of the unit, with Vasilis consistently creative and fluent in his Gordon-Mobley manner and Price as surefooted as ever, his chorded figures and Wes-like cut-and-run solo lines a constant pleasure. Stanley is similarly gifted, happy to move into extended linear variations while keeping the bass pulse going, Home swinging neatly. It's the overall sound and groove that pleases, no modish distortions, just quality music all the way through. Their softly swinging ‘Don't Look Back’ could be the perfect antidote to your Boris blues.
